Great location for both the northern lakes and the coast. Being in a town is perfect as you have access to shops, pubs and restaurants.

Yes - Cockermouth is a good centre both for the Lakes and for Roman remains. It was a good shopping centre for the basics and we enjoyed Wordsworth's House.
